Plans for a North Beach Wind Sports Centre

New plans have been revealed by Fylde Council for a new North Beach Wind Sports Centre. The vision is for a comprehensive headquarters for sand, wind, and water sports, for St Annes.

A New North Beach Wind Sports Centre

The two-phase plan will see the development of a beach sports centre with a number of uses:

  • a place for local clubs to host events and tuition,
  • a café for the provision of refreshments to beachgoers,
  • and a base of operations for the Council’s coastal and countryside ranger service.

The proposals use the former Trax property in the St Annes North Beach Car Park as a basis. It outlines how the building will be renovated to offer visitors and residents a place to enjoy the thrills of beach sports. All in a safe and managed environment.

This fantastic new facility will help people to enjoy all the exciting activities that St Annes beachfront has to offer. It’s some of the best beachfront in the United Kingdom for kitesurfing, and this centre will benefit the community while providing a welcoming place for visitors.

The first phase focuses on the refurbishment of the structure. The existing facilities will be brought up to the highest standard of functionality and accessibility. A space will be designated for a commercially operated café. Plus a multi-purpose room established for events and initiatives hosted by clubs or the ranger service.

Two Phases to Create North Beach Wind Sports Centre

The second phase will explore environmentally friendly enhancements. For example opportunities to generate power from wind or solar elements. And wrapping the property in timber cladding so as to improve energy efficiency. Measures such as these would help deliver a facility that’s both carbon-neutral and visually appealing.

The plans for North Beach Wind Sports Centre were approved by Fylde Council on 6th January 2022. The plan will now go before the Finance & Democracy Committee for budgetary approval. The aim is to be ready for summer 2022.
