Hear the collective performances from many of our bands, ensembles and choirs. Hundreds of children are performing for the first time tonight and your support at this stage of their musical journey is so very important.
You will also hear more established ensembles who now enjoy regular performance opportunities throughout the year in numerous prestigious venues both in this country and in Europe. Carols at the Winter Gardens

This Christmas we invite you to join us for a traditional carol concert. Held in the impressive Empress Ballroom at Blackpool Winter Gardens, we’ll have carols led by the fantastic 25-piece band ‘Blackpool Brass’, a collection of readings, musical items and a short Christmas message from international speaker and author J.John.
This event is open to everyone and tickets are just £5 per pair, so why not consider inviting someone along with you?

The Sound of Music

One of the greatest musicals of all time returns to the stage in a magnificent production to enchant and enthral the young and the young at heart. Based on Baroness Maria von Trapp’s 1949 autobiography, this wonderfully lavish new staging of The Sound Of Music tells the true story of the world-famous singing family, from their romantic beginnings and search for happiness, to their thrilling escape to freedom as their beloved Austria becomes part of the Third Reich at the start of WWII.
The unforgettable score features some of the most memorable songs ever performed on stage, including ‘Edelweiss’, ‘My Favorite Things’, ‘Do-Re-Mi’, ‘Climb Ev’ry Mountain’, and of course, the title song – ‘The Sound of Music’.
Winter Gardens Open Day

The world-famous Winter Gardens will again throw open its doors for an exclusive access all areas event, allowing the public a rare chance to explore every nook and cranny of the grade 2* listed building.
Blackpool’s Winter Gardens first opened to the public on 11 July 1878, with a lavish ceremony attended by the Lord Mayor of London and Mayors and Mayoresses from 68 towns throughout the country. Through its collection of theatres, ballrooms, exhibition halls and public spaces the venue has welcomed many millions since, including stars of stage, screen, and world politics.
The public will get the chance to visit backstage of the Opera House and a chance to tread the boards, so many famous faces have previously walked on, visit the backstage dressing rooms, and get up-close to the historic Wurlitzer theatre organ. The grandeur of the Empress Ballroom will be free to explore whilst the often-overlooked Spanish Suites will offer a unique insight into Blackpool’s largest entertainment venue. The open day will give the public the chance to explore and learn of the extensive history the building beholds after more than a century.
Hosting a range of events from business lunches, exhibitions and conferences, the Winter Gardens is home to some of the UK’s most iconic and spectacular spaces, including the world-renowned Empress Ballroom home to some of the most famous gigs of all time, and stage to speeches from every prime minster since Sir Winston Churchill. Not forgetting the ‘Wonder Stage’, the UK’s largest and venue to everyone that’s anyone in showbiz including 1D, Frank Sinatra and Peter Kay. Hard to believe but it’s almost 19 years since the Phoenix Club first opened its doors, and to celebrate that very special anniversary, both series of Peter Kay’s classic comedy Phoenix Nights are being shown on the big screen for the very first time.
Following the previous announcement screenings last month an extra date has been announced at Blackpool Opera House on Saturday 29th February. Additionally, extra seats have been added London’s Eventim Apollo due to demand.
All net profits are in aid of Cancer Research UK and all the screenings will include exclusively recorded cast interviews.
So why not come on down to the Phoenix Club one last time to see Brian Potter, Jerry ‘the saint’ St Clair, Les Alanos, Max & Paddy and all the gang.
In fact, why not go a step further and dress up as one of your favourite characters, although wheelchair spaces will be limited.

Curtains, a Musical Whodunnit

It’s murder putting on a new musical – literally! Jessica Cranshaw, star of the new Broadway-bound musical Robbin Hood, has been murdered on stage on opening night! The entire cast and crew are suspects. Time to call in the local detective, Frank Cioffi, who just happens to be a huge musical theatre fan. Elvis Costello and The Imposters

Elvis Costello and The Imposters will bring their new show to the UK for their first tour of the decade in February and March 2020, including a visit to the Opera House Blackpool. Tour Support act announced as Ian Prowse.
The tour is entitled Just Trust in answer to the musical questions: “Will they play my favourite song?,” or, “Are they going to frighten the horses with songs that are rarely performed and send some of their old nags off to pasture?” When ticket holders ask, “Can I expect the hits of yesteryear and those of tomorrow?” We say: Just Trust Elvis Costello and The Imposters.
This superlative ensemble – Steve Nieve on keyboards, Pete Thomas on drums, and bassist and vocalist, Davey Faragher – are once again augmented by singers Kitten Kuroi and Briana Lee, all of whom were heard on the acclaimed 2018 Concord Records release, ‘Look Now,’ numbers from which will find their rightful place among the highlights from one of the most unique and renowned song catalogues in popular music.

The Opera House
New, upcoming bands have played in the Opera House including the like of Little Mix, along with old favourites such as Jane McDonald and Daniel O’Donnell who continue to return and some of the world’s best bands including Canada’s Arcade Fire – who selected the Winter Gardens as only one of three venues to play in the UK.
The Empress Ballroom
The magnificent Empress Ballroom is just as comfortable staging the World Dance Championships each year as it is hosting some of the world’s best rock and pop acts in concert.

The Winter Gardens is an incredible building with a long history. It first opened on 11 July 1878 and since then has grown and developed as an entertainment complex which mirrors the growth of the seaside town of Blackpool.
Right in the centre of the complex, in what is now the coffee shop, still stands the original building of the site around which the whole of the Winter Gardens has been built.
A Perfect Venue for your Event
The Winter Gardens offers a wide variety of venues for events ranging from small private business lunches to large scale conferences. You can also hold your wedding at the Winter Gardens. What could be better than a reception or banquet in the newly refurbished Derham Room? (pictured below).
The main rooms include the 2,900 capacity Opera House (the largest theatre stage outside London), the grand Empress Ballroom with a capacity of 3,250 people for concerts, and the 2,600 sq metre Olympia Exhibition Hall.

Illuminasia was the indoor Illuminations attraction inside the Winter Gardens. It was always designed to be a temporary attraction, and finally closed the doors on Sunday 29 October 2017. Illuminasia was dismantled to make space for who knows what….
